Election Job Vacancies

Quay Appointments have 1400 job vacancies in the Centralised Dec Vote Centre located at ICC, Darling Harbour. 

 

There will be two shifts – 

AM a morning shift from 7am to 2.30pm 

PM an afternoon shift from 3pm to 10.30pm 

 

Working days will be Monday to Saturday. You must be available to work all days. You may be rostered to work Easter Saturday and Easter Monday pending your position and shift. 

 

Key Dates:  

  • Election day is Saturday 25 March 2023 - Materials Officers commence work 
  • Sunday 26 March, Initial Count Commences – Facilities, Gate Keeper and Initial Count Officers commence work 
  • Monday 27 March - Scrutiny, Batching, Extraction and Data Entry Commences 
  • Friday 7 April - Scrutiny Completed 
  • Friday 14 April - Data Entry Completed 

 

All work has been assessed on expected quantity of ballot papers, we can only estimate the proposed end dates. 

 

Training will be a combination of online and on the job. 

  • Position Description

    400 Scrutiny Officers 

    Review returned declaration votes to determine if the vote should be accepted or rejected 

    Data entry of elector details 

    Reconcile completed work

    • Maintain accuracy through a repetitive process 
    • Ability to problem solve 


    96 Data Entry Officers 

    Accurate data entry of preferences from ballot papers into the NSWEC computer count system 

    Reconciliation of data entered ballot papers 

    Lifting of ballot paper bundles will be required 


    Key skills: 

    • Computer skills - quick and accurate data entry 
    • Ability to follow instructions 
    • Ability to undertake repetitive work 

     


    160 Initial Reconciliation Officers 

    Manual sorting of declaration vote envelopes 

    Reconciling and recording results 

    Bundling envelopes into 20, loading into trays and onto trolleys 


    Key Skills 

    • Attention to detail 
    • Maintain accuracy through a repetitive process 
    • Moving and lifting of material (Max 10kg) 

     


    80 Sorting Officers 

    Sort accepted declaration vote envelopes to their district 

    Bundling envelopes into 20, loading into trays and onto trolleys 

    Envelope opening - using letter opening machines 

    Reconcile completed work

    • Ability to problem solve 

     


    144 Extraction Officers 

    Extraction of declaration votes 

    Reconciliation of ballot paper material 

    Exception handling

     72 Initial Count Officers 

    Accurate initial count of ballot papers 

    Lifting of ballot paper cartons will be required

    • Ability to undertake repetitive work 

     


    72 Batching Officers 

    Accurate check count of ballot papers received from the Returning Officer’s office 

    Accurate sort of ballot papers into various categories for either data entry or non-data entry (bulk entry) 

    Batching of ballot papers for data entry  

    Some lifting may be required to be undertaken

    128 Gatekeeper Officer 

    Selection and allocation of work 

    Reconciling and recording of results 

    Ballot paper storage and sealing

    • Competent computer skills

    • Australian Citizenship - on the Australian Electoral Roll 
    • Politically neutral with no affiliations to political parties, nominated candidates, or third-party campaigners 
    • Strong attention to detail  
    • Confident computer skills 
    • Quick to learn 
    • Compliant when following a process 
    • Proficient in numeric or alpha/numeric data entry, min 7,000 keystrokes per hour if applying for Scrutiny or Data Entry position
