Primary purpose of the role
Identifying information technology needs, establishing priorities and gaining acceptance for the strategic systems plan for financial, commercial and accounting functions

Systems Development and Improvement

  • Develop, manage and implement enhancements, corrections and upgrades of financial systems and reporting applications
  • Drive the improvement in quality, timeliness and efficiency of financial systems and reporting applications while ensuring compliance with reporting standards and statutory requirements
  • Liaise with operations and development areas and with users to identify and implement new financial and reporting systems and enhancements
  • Monitor and review the appropriateness and commercial risk of existing financial systems to identify and target areas for improvement
  • Project manage financial management and reporting systems when required using approved project methodology
  • Communicate regularly with system users on current initiatives and projects and on issues effecting the efficiency and timeliness of financial systems and reporting applications
  • Identify and respond to issues associated with financial systems and reporting applications to facilitate improvements that comply with user requirements

System Maintenance and Operation

  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of relevant training programs to ensure use of the systems and applications achieve maximum benefits
  • Put systems in place to ensure that financial reporting systems and reporting applications are accurate and provide sufficient information to enable informed decision making
  • Provide advice and reports to senior finance and other executives on the maintenance and integrity of the financial modules and reporting applications
  • Assist finance and other managers in the development and maintenance of reporting applications to meet the requirements of the Executive, Government and Finance and Business Services Command
  • Develop and maintain security policies, processes and procedures as they relate to finance systems and reporting applications
  • Ensure the Chart of Accounts is managed and maintained as required by the department.
