  • Why do I need to be an Australian Citizen?

    You must be an Australian Citizen to be on the electoral roll. Current legislation requires some of the jobs/tasks to be completed by staff who are on the NSW or Commonwealth Electoral Roll. You can check your enrolment details on NSWEC website. https://roll.elections.nsw.gov.au/NSWLookUp

  • Do I require election experience?

    No. We welcome applications from anyone with the suitable skills, experience and commitment for the term of the short-term casual contract.

  • Do I have to do a data entry test?

    Yes. All applicants will be sent a link to complete an online numeric and alpha/numeric data entry test. The results will be used to assess which job you are best suited to carry out.

  • What if my data entry test is score is not fast enough? Will I still be considered for other vacancies at the Centre(s)?

    If your data entry scores do not meet the data entry minimum requirement, you will be considered for other positions, in the Dec Vote Count or Sydney Count Centre, more suitably matched to your skills and experience.

  • Do I have to be politically impartial?

    The NSW Electoral Commission is committed to maintaining public confidence in the integrity of the electoral system. They expect employees refrain from membership of any political party and from engaging in political activity which could be seen as reflecting adversely on the strict political neutrality of the NSW Electoral Commission. Applicants who are seen to be or are active in political activities should disclose such information as part of their application.

  • Do I need to be vaccinated to work at the Elections?

    There is no minimum requirements for vaccination at the 2024 NSW Local Government Elections. 

  • Do I need to have a computer to complete the application process?

    You will require access to a computer and the internet to complete online testing, Group Induction and one-on-one Interview.

  • What if I can’t work all days?

    Preference will be given to applicants who can work all days. Some jobs are short term.

  • Will I have to pay for parking?

    Yes. Staff are encouraged to travel to and from work by public transport. There is no onsite parking available at the Pavilions. 

  • Is parking available?

    There is strictly no onsite parking.


    Sydney Olympic Park has over 10,000 parking spaces site-wide. Carparks P1, P5 and P6 are in close proximity to Sydney Showground.

    Costs: $7 per hour, up to a maximum fee of $35 per day. 


    Parking will be at your own expense. A carpool with co-workers may be a good option. Work and travel together and share the expense

  • Am I required to lift or move heavy objects whilst working for the Elections?

    Election staff will be required to undertake manual handling in many of the jobs in the Dec Vote and Sydney Count Centre. Safe work training will be provided, and all staff will be encouraged to practice safe handling techniques when working with heavy items.

  • Will training be provided?

    Training will be provided in a combination of online and on the job. The online training is mandatory and will be administered on your first day of work.

  • How do I complete the Electoral Roll Verification?

    To work at an election, you need to be on the NSW or Commonwealth electoral roll. 


    We require a copy of your enrolment to progress your application.

    Whilst working on site, you will log your time on the DEPUTY APP at the start and end of your shift

  • When will I receive my logins to Astute Payroll Portal?

    Quay Appointments will email your Astute User Details one week prior to starting work. Please make sure you enter your bank, tax and superannuation details accurately into the system.

  • When will I be paid?

    The working week runs from Sunday to Saturday.

    • Saturday 14th September, Processed Thursday 19th Sept and funds received on Friday 

    • Sunday 15 September to Saturday 21 September, Processed Thursday 26th Sept and funds received on Friday  

    • Sunday 22 September to Saturday 28 September, Processed Thursday 3 Oct and funds received on Friday


    You will receive an emailed copy of your payment advice on Thursday. Please remember to check your junk and spam email folders.


    You may access your payment advice in the Astute Portal.


    Please note that while we transfer all payments on Thursday, we cannot guarantee when your bank will deposit the funds into your account.

  • What is the Quay Appointments default Superannuation fund?

  • Can I claim the "tax free threshold"?

    We can offer some general information regarding the tax-free threshold, but please note that we are not income tax advisors or professionals.


    Typically, individuals can claim the tax-free threshold on the first $18,200 of income earned in the income year. This threshold serves to reduce the amount of tax withheld from your 


    income. Whether you're employed by one or more payers, such as an employer, government agency, or work under an ABN, claiming the tax-free threshold remains applicable.


    If you are an Australian resident for tax purposes, you are generally eligible to claim the tax-free threshold each income year.
