The employment market is a very competitive one. Your resume has to stand out in
order to create a favourable impression with a decision maker.
So to ensure that your resume provides an opportunity for you to gain a face to
face interview it is essential that your resume provides accurate and concise information
from which the relevant details maybe accessed quickly. The resume must be well laid
out and thoroughly checked for spelling and grammatical errors.
We have provided you with a template.
Other tips include:
- Try to keep your resume to 2 pages.
- Put your name on each page.
- Provide your full name, telephone number where you can be contacted, include email
address (Be cautious about work telephone numbers).
- Leave out personal information such as, hobbies (unless very relevant) details
about marital status, children, etc.
- Education - List degrees, relevant training courses, honours or scholarships
or study in progress.
- List other areas of competencies such as computer software used, languages spoken,
licenses held, professional memberships.
- Work History - Start with your last position first, document your work
history accurately, record start and finish dates. Ensure that the reader is not confused
by overlapping dates. Leave out a position if necessary and explain in the interview.
- Provide position title and detail your daily activity. Place the most relevant
details first.
- If the position was a short term, or one with no relevance to the position you're
applying for, record limited information.
- It is not necessary to provide extensive information about positions that were
short term or a long time ago.
- Do not use abbreviations.
You may want to consider a summary of your work history before commencing with
your current position.
