A Word from the MD's Desk

Paid Parental Leave (PPL) Scheme kicks off
on 1st January 2011 and employers need to be
ready to understand their obligations.

Employer's are obliged to participate in the scheme from 1st July 2011 but can volunteer to administer the PPL from 1st January following receipt of an application from an eligible worker, pre-registration for the scheme began in October. Casuals, on-hire workers, contractors and the self employed may be eligible if they fulfil all of the relevant criteria.

The scheme is funded by the Australian Government so employer's do not have to contribute to any paid parental leave.

To meet the Paid Parental Leave scheme work test, your worker must have:

- Worked for at least 10 of the 13 months prior to the birth or adoption of that employee's child, and

- Worked for at least 330 hours in that 10 month period (just over one day a week), with no more than an eight week gap between two consecutive working days.

"Working with Monsters"

The Workplace Psychopath

Presented by: Dr John Clarke
16th November, 2010

The majority of psychopaths are not serial killers or rapists, they're colleagues, bosses and employees found in a variety of workplaces.

He/she can be found working inside many of Australia's businesses and corporations.

  • He/she intimidates fellow workers
  • He/she exhibits impulsive behavior
  • He/she demonstrates a lack of remorse
  • He/she is glib and superficially charming

The talk will examine what a psychopath is, their personality style, behaviors, interpersonal approach and thought processes.

You will discover how they infiltrate companies undetected, as well as the strategies they use to manipulate those around them to achieve power and promotion.
The talk will also look at what companies and individuals can do to minimise damage caused by the psychopath, as well as the effect of the workplace psychopath on their victims.

Dr John Clarke completed his PhD in Psychology at the University of Sydney. He has done extensive research looking at psychopaths in the workplace, criminal profiling,
serial killers, serial rape, animal cruelty offenders, and sexual homicide crime scene analysis.

Dr Clarke consults widely for corporations and government departments experiencing problems with a suspected workplace psychopath, as well as working with victims of workplace psychopaths. Further information on workplace psychopaths and related topics can be found at www.drjohnclarke.com
