A Word from the MD's Desk

How are you dealing with social media in your workplace?
Is it becoming an issue?

With it's rapid growth and application it is becoming a business imperative that you have
a policy which ensures that employees who use social media either as part of their job, or in a personal capacity, have guidance as to the company's expectations regarding social
media engagement.

Your company's social policy should include:

  • Statement of organisations philosophies
    on social media
  • Explain the why behind policy
  • Clearly state employer's expectations regarding online communication
  • Consequences of infringements
  • Employee's acceptance

"Social Media a force to be reckoned with - What are you doing?"

Presented by: Lara Solomon
21st September, 2010

Here are some facts:
  • People are 5 times more likely to buy a product or service based on a friend's recommendation than on an advert that they have seen
  • There are now 500 million people on Facebook
  • The average Australian spends 16 hours a week on the internet
  • The average Australian spends over 7 hours a month on social media sites

Social media helps businesses listen to, build relationships and engage with customers, it is another tool that you can use to get to know your customers and build trust with them.

Social media is everywhere, but should businesses get on board?

Lara Solomon started her entrepreneurial journey in 2004 with her Telstra Award winning business Mocks (socks for mobile phones). In 2008 she released her first book - Brand New Day, The Highs and Lows of starting a Small Business, a diary of her first 4 years in business. Then in 2009 Mocks started a Facebook page, which grew to over 12,000 fans in under 3 months and doubled online sales, and Lara realised that WOW this social media stuff works!

Social Rabbit (www.SocialRabbit.net) was started in 2010 after Lara was continually asked how did you achieve such awesome results on the Mocks Facebook page? Lara realised that there was a need within the business world for social media education, training and consulting. Social Rabbit now helps businesses achieve their goals through social media.
